8/1 Soul Quench

Today’s Soul Quench comes from my favorite little online pick me up “Note from the Universe.”

This morning on my way to work I was feeling a little Blah…Blah… I wanted things to happen faster in my life. So I started to internally shout, protest and become dissatisfied with the world around me. During my train commute I tried playing Candy Crush on my phone, hoping it would take my mind off of my despair. Well, that didn’t work! I lost all my lives in 10 minutes (if you never played this game before…you have been warned, it is very addictive!) which angered me even more, so much so that I wanted to throw my phone on the floor and do the Irish River dance on it. Instead of doing that nonsensical act, I took a few deep breaths so I could come back to my core being. I decided to check my email from my phone and thank God that I did. The first email I seen was from Tut… A Note from the Universe. I opened it up and read the below little nugget of inspiration. It was all I needed to bring everything back into perspective. I love when things fall into my lap serendipitously. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Tut… A Note from the Universe

Dreams come true, that’s what they do. The only variable is when.

For the slow approach: Resist. Attach. Insist. Deny. Stop. Second guess. Whine. Argue. Defend. Protest. Cry. Struggle. And ask others, when you know the answer yourself.

For the quick approach: Visualize. Pretend. Prepare. Dodge. Roll. Serpentine. Do not waiver over intentions, but over methods. Show up, even when nothing happens. And give thanks in advance.

You knew that,
The Universe

Silencing The Little Bitchy Gremlin

imagesCAZI3QR0

Hello fellow Hunters! Often times I find myself looking down the well of self-doubt. It’s not a view of myself I am most proud of but it happens from time to time. For me it usually comes when I finish writing one of my short stories or when I am about to perform on stage.  That is when that nagging little voice speaks the loudest.

The voice I so lovingly dub “THE LITTLE BITCHY GREMLIN!”

Now this gremlin will take his/her horn, hold it up to my ears and  whisper soothing words like, “you suck,” “you will never make it,” “you’re not talented enough,” “you will never attain your goals,” ” you’re too young for this or too old for that.” Oh and my favorite,” put down those Girl Scout Thin Mints or you will start to resemble Borat in a lime green bathing suit”!

Although, my bitchy little gremlin might have a point on the Thin Mint topic, I have learned how to drown out its wicked little banter.

First, neutralize the negative thoughts by infusing them with inspirational words. No, I am not talking about going all Viola Davis from “The Help” chanting (in my best southern accent) You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important”… Unless that’s what floats your boat. Then have at it. Instead I take a deep breath and repeat the phrase “I choose my happiness, my doubt is based on fear not fact and I release it.”  Then I think of all the things both past and present, that inspires me and made want to become a writer and a dancer…Then I smile!

Lastly, I put on my playlist called “Feel Good Music (sorry no creative name there)” in my iTunes library. These are all the songs that either makes me want to immediately jump up and dance or the words inspire me to keep on moving.

I encourage you to find those few things in life that will keep you revved up and passionate about your journey towards your goals, in other words, capture your own little butterfly.

Here is a sneak peek of my playlist.

1. Summer sun – Koop
2. Closer to my dreams – Goapele
3. Coming Back Around – Pete Simpson
4. Empire State of Mind – Alicia Keys and Jay – Z
5. Breathe – Telepopmusik
6. Journey – Don’t Stop Believing (best karaoke song!)
7. Run the World (Girls) – Beyoncé
8. Love and Happiness – La India (version)
9. Feeling Good – The Quantic Soul Orchestra Feat. Alice Russell
10. Don’t Stop Dancing Girl – Kaskade Feat. Haley

Bonus: Ride to California ~ Paper Tongues (I am obsessed with this song)

Top 5 things that keep you from flipping the table over and screaming, “Say hello to my little friend!”

We can all remember a few times in our lives when certain situations or individuals caused us to react negatively. This reaction I lovingly call “poking the lion.” Although I am a fairly calm person, at times my patience is non-existent. In all fairness I am working on this little hiccup day by day hopefully to ultimately become zen’ed out. Until then I have discovered a few tried and true methods that have kept me from flipping over the table and screaming, “Say hello to my little friend!”

1. Chocolate in any form… My personal preference is a chocolate chip cookie. 1pc should do the trick no more than that! Disclaimer: Failure to eat more than 1pc of anything made with delicious chocolate will result in you having a big a@#. Unless, that is your goal, well then by all means eat up!

2. Ryan Gosling in V-neck cashmere sweater à la Crazy, Stupid, Love … The color really doesn’t matter as long as it’s a V-neck sweater and it’s Ryan Gosling who is wearing it! As for the visual ladies and gents (I don’t judge) … You’re welcome!

3. Clean as if your mother A.K.A Monk is coming to visit! When I have some expendable anger that with all my might, I am trying not to unleash on the intended target…I clean and scowl my whole house! It’s a great stress releaser and your home will thank you for it!

4. Dance as if you’re Jennifer Beals reprising your role in Flash dance! That’s right folks! Put on your favorite music whether it’s Rock, Reggae, Soca, Samba, Salsa, Irish Riverdance, Middle Eastern, Hip Hop etc. Whatever it is just rock out to it! You will shake the negative energy away and shed a few pounds all at once! Sounds like a win– win to me.

5. Breathe…Scream into a pillow. Release that entire ball of pent- up energy. Then pick up a book with some encouraging words. Preferably one on the subject of LETTING GO! I repeat LETTING GO not to be confused with GOING OFF! This is what we are trying to avoid. I have listed a few books that have helped me from releasing the KRACKEN on more than one occasion!

1. The Gospel According to Jesus by Paul Ferrini
2. How to Heal Toxic Thoughts by Sandra Ingerman
3. Divine Guidance by Doreen Virtue, Ph.D.

I hope you will find my little suggestions helpful. I know they have helped me in times when my emotions were about to get the best of me.

Please remember step away from the situation, breathe and release.

Ciao for now! 🙂
